Congratulations to the Varsity and JV Boys Basketball teams on winning District! Varsity plays Lubbock Monterrey in Monahans on Tuesday at 6:30 El Paso time. Good luck!

Congratulations to the Varsity and JV Boys Basketball teams on winning District!

Congratulations to the boys track teams for a very impressive season opener at the Americas Invitational. The varsity boys were 3rd as Sam Sanchez made Coronado's Top Ten by pole vaulting 13'6". The JV boys and 0th grade boys were both victorious.

Key Club will meet Thursday 2/16 during B-Lunch in A-41. Yearbook pictures will be taken so wear red.

The T-Bird varsity wrestling team competed in the EPISD district tournament this weekend. The boys' team placed third and the girls' team placed fourth. Congratulations to Khaldon Rashid and Estephanel Dominguez who placed 1st in their respective weight classes in the district tournament. Isaac Jimenez, M.A. Betancourt, Rodrigo Fierro, Jose Espinoza, Thomas Porras, and Christina Kessinger placed second in the respective weight classes. Isaac Aguayo, David Ruiz, Benjamin Windle, Fatima Banuelos placed third in the respective class. Good luck to Khaldoon Rashid, Isaac Jimenez, M.A. Betancourt, Rodrigo Fierro, Estephanel Dominguez, and Christina Kessinger who qualified to compete at the Regional tournament in Amarillo, Texas this weekend.

Student writers, artists and photographers: If you have written any great poetry, short stories, plays, or essays, please bring a copy of your work to Mrs. Haefner in A29 so that we can consider publishing them in the school literary arts magazine. If you want to turn in photos, burn them onto a CD and bring them in. If you have artwork, bring it by for us to photograph. Deadline is February 3 .

As of Monday, January 30th , eating in the library will be prohibited. This privilege may be reinstated at a later date.

Student writers, artists and photographers: If you have written any great poetry, short stories, plays, or essays, please bring a copy of your work to Mrs. Haefner in A29 so that we can consider publishing them in the school literary arts magazine. If you want to turn in photos, burn them onto a CD and bring them in. If you have artwork, bring it by for us to photograph. Deadline is February 3 .

French Club will meet today at 12:15 in D-6. All are welcome.

Friends of Animals will meet Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in E-29.

The girls' swim team finished 2nd and the boys placed 3rd in the District Swim Meet over the weekend. Ashley Payne was named swimmer of the meet, setting a district record in the 100 fly and finished 2nd in the 100 breast. Susie Kim (50 and 100 free) and Alyssa Ramos (200 and 500 free) each won two silver medals. Ashley, Susie, Alyssa and Itzel Blancas set a district record in the 200 medley relay, and the 400 free relay of Idaly Rios, Ashley, Susie, and Alyssa also broke the district record. The boys' 200 free relay (Hector Posadas, Chris Nava, Luis Alvelais, Jaime Alvelais) finished second as well as the 400 free relay (Jaime, Zach Abbott, Luis and Hector). Congratulations!

CHS Theater Department presents The Crucible tonight at 7 p.m. and tomorrow
at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door.

Faculty & Staff: If you are not assigned a parking space or if you don't have a handicap placard, do not park in the front of the school. Towing is always enforced per administration.

Student writers, artists and photographers: If you have written any great poetry, short stories, plays, or essays, please bring a copy of your work to Mrs. Haefner in A29 so that we can consider publishing them in the school literary arts magazine. If you want to turn in photos, burn them onto a CD and bring them in.  If you have artwork, bring it by for us to photograph. Deadline is February 3.

The girls placed 4th and the boys finished 7th at the Lubbock Invitational swim meet over the weekend. Medalists included Ashley Payne, who won the 100 fly and finished 3rd in the 200 free, breaking a 24-year old school record; Alyssa Ramos who was 3rd in the 500 free, breaking her own school record, and Susie Kim, who finished 3rd in the 50 free. Ashley, Idaly Rios, Alyssa and Susie also won the 400 free relay.

Congratulations to Patricia Ablanedo-Morales for begin named the Cross Country Runner of the Year by the El Paso Times. Kendra Melendez was named to 1st Team, Alina Ward was 2nd team and Zach Bassett received Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all.

The Coronado Swim Team competed in the EPISD Invitational Swim Meet this weekend. The girls placed second while the boys took 4h. The 400 free relay of Ashley Payne, Idaly Rios, Alyssa Ramos and Susie Kim won, setting a meet record, and the 200 free relay of Ashley, Itzel Blancas, Alyssa and Susie also won gold. Alyssa won the 200 free in a meet record and finished 2nd in the 100 back, Susie placed 2nd in the 50 and 100 free, Ashley placed 2nd in the 200 IM and 100 breast, and ITzel took 3rd in the 100 fly. The boys' 200 free relay (Hector Posadas, Chris Nava, Luis Alvelais, and Jaime Alvelais) finished 2nd. Hector placed 3rd in the 50 free.

Congratulations to Emilio Mesa for being selected to the Texas All-State Jazz Ensemble. He is one of two alto saxophone players in the state to earn this honor. Congrats again for your great work, Emilio!

Boys soccer tryouts begin Monday 11/28 after school on the football field. You must have a physical. Bring your cleats. Any questions--ask Coach Herrera in B-29.5

Any girls interested in trying out for soccer, see Coach Esparza in the girls PE locker room during A-Lunch or in the small gym during B-lunch any day this week. Tryouts are November 28th.

Congratulations to the Coronado Drumline for placing1st at the Sun City Throwdown Drumline contest. They were also awarded the Best Pit and Best Front Ensemble captions.

The Swim Team competed in the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Swim Meet over the weekend. The girls placed 2nd while the boys were 4th. Alyssa Ramos, Marisela Gonzalez, Ashley Payne and Susie Kim won the 200 medley relay, while Alyssa, Ashley, Susia and Idaly Rios won the 400 free relay. Hector Posadas, Luis Alvelais, Chris Nava and Jaime Alvelais took second place in the 200 free relay.

The National History Day competition is coming up in February at UTEP. Come to the first meeting this Thursday after school in Mrs. Gomolsky's room (A-08).

CHS football is in the playoffs! The game is on Saturday at 11:00 MST at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland against San Angelo Central. The business office has game tickets. Students are $4, adults are $7.

Congratulations to the Thunderbird Marching Band for its performances at the New Mexico State Tournament of Bands on Saturday. The band won first place in the Music and General Effect categories as well as first place in Class AA during preliminary performances. It won the Grand Championship Award in finals. The Spirit Rally is 8th period in the stadium. To be released from 8th period to attend the rally, you must have a new blanket to donate to the B-Warm drive. Congratulations to the tennis team for placing second in the regional tournament this past weekend in Abilene. The T-Birds lost to Plano West 10-9 in the finals Congratulations to all team members on a great season.

The swim team competed in the Elite Relays Friday and Saturday. Alyssa Ramos, Itzel Blancas, Idaly Rios, and Ashley Payne won the 200 backstroke relay. Idaly, Alyssa Salcido, Fernanda Mendoza and Renata Lopez won the 200 long axis relay. For the boys, Hector Posadas, Danny Lavi, Luis Alvelais, and Jaime Alvelais won the 100 free relay. There was no scoring in the meet.

Congratulations to the girls cross country team as they won the District 1-5A Championship. Running an outstanding race was individual winner Patricia Ablanedo followed by Kendra Melendez, Alina Ward, Samantha Homan, Brynna Abel, Jackie Rios and Valerie Bright. The boys team finished second to qualify for regionals. They were led by Zach Bassett, Wito Vanheyste, Mario Guerra, Miguel Kennedy, Eddie Rios, Jake Schlinke, and Sam Lerma. Congratulations.

The Thunderbird Herd cross-country team will be lacing them up at the Chamizal as the copete in the District 1-5A championships. The girls will race at 10:40 and the boys at 11:00. The 9th and Open teams will compete Monday at 4:00 at Golden Key Park. Good luck to the runners.

His appearance is sponsored by University Behavioral Health. This week's football theme is Where's Waldo El Dorado. Spirit Rally at 12:20 in the gym and game at the SAC at 7 p.m. We need to win this game to make playoffs, so come cheer them on to victory.

The girls' swim team won the Socorro Invitational Swim Meet over the weekend while the finished a strong fourth. Ashley Payne won the 200 Individual Medle3y and the 100 butterfly, while Alyssa Ramos finished second in both the 50 and 100 free. Ashley, Alyssa, Madison Vasquez and Idaly Rios also won the 400 free relay. Jaime Alvelais placed second in the goy's 50 free. Hector Posadas, Danny Lavi, Zach Abbott and Luis Alvelais were second in the 200 free relay.

Parent-Teacher Conference day is Wednesday. Morning classes will meet and students will be dismissed at 11:45.

Lyceum Speaker series is today during B-Lunch in the speech auditorium. The topic is Culinary Arts & Business Entrepreneurship and the speaker is Mark Heins, owner of Greenery. Pizza will be served or you may bring lunch your own lunch.

On Tuesday, October 25 , Coronado is privileged to host former Dallas Cowboy Herschel Walker. Mr. Walker has an amazing and inspiring message about overcoming obstacles, mental illness, and bullying. His appearance is sponsored by University Behavioral Health. Please join us on Tuesday in the Fine Arts Theater at 6 p.m. There is no charge to attend, and Mr. Walker will stay afterward to sign autographs.

This weekend the Coronado Speech and Debate team did an amazing job at the Eastwood invitational.  
Austin Edens placed 1st in LD Debate, 2nd in Student Congress, 3rd in FX, and 5th in DX.
Sofia Al-Dasouqi placed 1st in FX and DX, and in PF Debate with her partner Fabiola Porras.
Jamie Loper and Arita Sandoval placed 1st in CX Debate.
Caleb Vinson placed 2nd in FX and 6th in Student Congress.
Karmen Rivera placed 4th in DX.
Sofia also got overall Top Public Speaker.
The team received 1st Place Overall Sweepstakes (with 15 teams competing).

The Varsity girls' cross country team won their first meet of the year at the Canutillo Invitational. Patricia Ablanedo was second. Alina Ward was fourth, Samantha Homan tenth and Jackie Rios twentieth, with Brynna Abel twenty-third. The boys side placed second. The open boys were also second. The open girls were fourth.

Congratulations to the Thunderbird Herd Cross Country team for their outstanding performance at the Socorro Invitational. Led by Zach Bassett, the Varsity boys team was first. Patricia Ablanedo-Morales won the girls race as the team placed 2nd. The JV girls were 2nd and the JV boys 4th. Great job!

Do you like to play frisbee? Come join the Ultimate Frisbe Club! Meeting today during B-Lunch in B-30. Don't miss out!

Representatives from the following colleges will be at CHS soon: TCU on 9/7; University of Dallas on 9/7; Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on 9/8; SMU on 9/8; Austin College on 9/8. If you are interested in visiting with any of these representatives, stop by the Counseling Center to sign up.

College Night is on September 6 from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria. There will be representatives from more than 40 colleges and universities. Take advantage of this great opportunity.

CHS will have its fall Open House next Wednesday, August 31 from 5:30-8:00. Please tell your parents to access your schedule trough Parent Portal and bring a copy with them.

The first spirit rally of the year is Friday at 12:20 in the big gym. Go Loud! Go Proud! Wear your blue and gold and come to the gym for games, prizes, cheers, and fun.

CHS will be competing in Western Technical College's T-Robo Contest. Come to a meeting in Room E-5 on Thursday after school if you have an interest in robotics and would like to be on the team.

To all faculty and staff that need a parking permit: You need to stop by the security office for an application. The application must be filled out completely in order to receive a parking permit. Security will begin issuing citations to all vehicles without a permit beginning next week.

Students need to wear their IDs on their upper torso throughout the day. Beginning Monday referrals will be issued for not wearing your ID.

Any girl interested in joining the JV or Freshmen girls basketball team, please see Coach Hutchins in A-22 or Coach Flores in A-23 during lunch or 8th period. You can also find them in the gym on Tuesdays and Fridays after 4 p.m.
